Teacher : Why?
Student : There is no future in it.

Ted : $10.
Teacher : You don't know maths.
Ted : You don't know my father!

Mother : David, come here.
David : Yes, mum?
Mother : You really disappoint me. Your results are getting worse.
David : But I will only get my report book tomorrow.
Mother : I know that. But I am going to Hong Kong tomorrow, so I am scolding you now.

Father : Why did you fail your mathematics test?
Son : On Monday, teacher said 3+5=8
Father : So?
Son : On Tuesday, she said 4+4=8 And on Wednesday, she said 6+2=8. If she can't make up her mind, how do I know the right answer?

A mother and son were doing dishes while the father and daughter were watching TV in the living room. Suddenly, there was a loud crash of breaking plates, then complete silence. The daughter turned to look at her father.

Teacher: "Where were u born?"
Student: " Singapore , Sir."
Teacher: "Which part?"
Student: "All of me, Sir."

A teacher was asking her class: "What is the difference between 'unlawful' and 'illegal'?" Only one hand shot up. "Ok, answer, Joan" said the teacher. "'unlawful' is when u do something the law doesn't allow and 'illegal' is a sick eagle."

Teacher: "How come you do not comb your hair?"
Ah Kow: "No comb, Sir."
Teacher: "Use your dad's then."
Ah Kow: "No hair, Sir."

A boy came home from school with his exam results.
"What did u get?" asked his father.
"My marks are under water," said the boy.
"What do u mean 'under water'?" "They are all below 'C' (sea) level"

WHAT HAPPENED THIS MONTH 50 YEARS AGO?
JUNE 1958

Towards the end of May 1958, the whole school was abuzz with preparation for the year's carnival. It was a sort of fun fair to raise money for the school. There were many preparations made, so much so that classes were sometimes disturbed. But it was all for the sake of raising funds to support the school. Everything like the school buildings, equipment and the expenses of the day to day running of the school was all paid by the school fees and funds raised.

Why? MES was a private school which Mr. Miles also chose it to be at that status. The then state Chief Education officer offered to give aid to the school. However, Mr. Miles politely declined. He knew very well that once the school was supported by the government, then all the overage students would have to stop schooling there.

Back to the carnival, despite the preparations and activities such as food fair and games and a singing contest, the fund raised was not very substantive. It netted a mere 2000 ringgit. Considering the value of money those days, when a teacher received 200 ringgit as pay, two thousand ringgit was quite a big sum, you may say. However, the fun it created for the townsfolk was worth all the trouble. The popularity of the school spread.

There was a mention of someone playing the accordion in his diary. That strapped-over-the-shoulder instrument was a most coveted antic of our mentor. Down in town, the Peng Fong store displayed one that was quite different. How envious were we to dream of owning it. But no way in those days, as we just didn't have the money! Remember our mentor used to play the accordion and we sang along some cowboy songs!! Those days are gone!!!

Then Mr. Miles had to deal with a grandfather who came to give emotional support to his grandson in class. He asked the grandfather to go away. The result: the little one retaliated by creating a mess! He wetted his pants because he was over-scared without the presence of his granddad! He created work for the poor teacher to clean up the mess!

 Cargo Ship

Our mentor got the news that the cargo ship that brought him to Malaya for the first time was calling at Port Swettenham. Where was that? It was the old name of our present Port Kelang. We have been independent but the name and its most rudimentary of a port facilities was but the presence of a wooden jetty, rendered it no necessity to have a name change. Anyway Mr. Miles went down to Port Swettenham, boarded the ship and met the old sea dog, Captain Heraldsen, his old nautical friend.

We were more preoccupied with other more urgent things. What? Confrontation. Indonesia was against our forming of a new nation. We were threatened with aggression. So there was a call to recruit manpower to protect this - our new nation. The right age boys at MES were filling up forms for military service, poised to go into action!

Those days, our mentor appeared to move around the circles of royalties. He could drop in palaces easily with princes as company. So he was going round in high-flying life-styles; in flashy cars and dining in style? Not really. On the contrary, he was bringing the issues of royalties around to tread the common ground; like going in ramshackle buses while moving around and eating at little stalls and restaurants among men-in-the-street in town. And the royalties seemed to enjoy the liberty of moving among the crowd in villages and in the big towns!

How to stop cough in 5 minutes!!!
This is a must try...

 Cough

We have all been kept awake by our own or someone else's cough. Try this and pass it on. The tip and not the cough. ANYTHING is better than antibiotics. Even babies could benefit from this and the parents wouldn't worry about the safety of their child. And of course, it is harmless and free from any type of side-effects.

 Vicks Socks - 3 Pairs

Treatment:
To stop night time coughing in a child (or an adult, as we found out personally), put Vicks Vapor Rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime and then cover with socks.

Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about five minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. This works 100 percent of the time, and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children, as compared to alternative therapies like acupressure.

I just happened to tune in to a.m. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs, so I listened.

It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, and in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago, and it worked 100 percent ! She said it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her. The coughing stopped in a few minutes, and believe me this was a deep (incredibly annoying!) every few seconds, uncontrollable cough and she slept cough-free for hours every night she used it.

If you have children or grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed.

THE WONDERFUL STINK BEAN - PETAI
 Petai
Petai contains three natural sugars-sucrose, fructose and glucose. Combined with fiber, petai gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proved that just two servings of petai provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute wor kout. No wonder petai is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way petai can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

 Petai Bean
DEPRESSION
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND among peoplesuffering from depression, many felt much better after eating petai. This is because petai contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
 Petai Bean
PMS (premenstrual syndrome)
Forget the pills - eat petai. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
 Petai Bean
ANAEMIA
High in iron, petai can stimulate the production of haemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anaemia.
 Petai Bean
BLOOD PRESSURE
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the petai industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
 Petai Bean
BRAIN POWER
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating petai at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
 Petai Bean
CONSTIPATION
High in fiber, including petai in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.
 Petai Bean
HANGOVERS
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a petai milkshake, sweetened with honey. The petai calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
 Petai Bean
HEARTBURN
Petai has a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating petai for soothing relief.
 Petai Bean
MORNING SICKNESS
Snacking on petai between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
 Petai Bean
MOSQUITO BITES
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of the petai skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
 Petai Bean
NERVES
Petai is high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
 Petai Bean
OVERWEIGHT
Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food l ike chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more l ikely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
 Petai Bean
ULCERS
Petai is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
 Petai Bean
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
Many other cultures see petai as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In hoiland, for example, pregnant women eat petai to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
 Petai Bean
SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER (SAD)
Petai can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer, tryptophan.
 Petai Bean
SMOKING
Petai can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
 Petai Bean
STRESS
Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium petai snack.
 Petai Bean
STROKES
According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine, " eating petai as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%".
 Petai Bean
WARTS
Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of petai and place it on the wart. Carefully hold the petai in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, as you can see, petai really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A Petai a day keeps the doctor away".
 Petai Sambal Prawn
This is to say, we Asians have our own way to keep the sinseh or dukun away!! But you have to get use to the petai stink all day!!!

HE LIVES AMONG THE GREENS SOOTHED BY THE WIND

 Nature Mountain

I am sure many of us are feeling the heat waves nowadays. In Bentong sometimes it is very hot indeed what more down in the city – Kuala Lumpur! When I mentioned the unbearable heat to our mentor on one of my now less frequent visits, I commented on the phenomenon of global warming. “Probably global warming is here in Bentong!” I said.

But he said he didn’t feel it. Of course he was right. He is living in a place where the secondary jungle is closing in. His is not like what is like in the city where the jungle of concrete and steel is encroaching upon our dwellings. He has the lush greenery surrounding him. He lives in the ambience of living greens that is always humid and fanned by the wind.
