HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008
THE YEAR CHINA HOSTS THE OLYMPICS
And sorry I beg your pardon. Let's look at what we have done in 2007. Well, Malaysia has put a man into
space. Congratulation to our first angkasawan, for his achievements.
Hey, what's up on Christmas Day? Come and celebrate with our mentor. Here's is his invitation to his
open house on Christmas Day, 25th December.
Christmas comes but once a year,
and now is that time!
Come on the 25th and help me to celebrate.
The road has been improved, and the dogs can be bribed with food to stay out of the way.
So come one, come all!!
SEE YOU THERE ON X'MAS DAY
Come on Christmas Day; come and visit our mentor.
You shall bring him luck and good fortune; that is for sure. What luck? Pot-luck, of course!
Many are waiting to listen to your secret recipes and praise your cooking abilities. Bring in some
pot-luck or wok-luck or pan--uck or why not cauldron-luck or oven luck too. All are welcome to the
Oh, that reminds me about those whose lives are now so easy, or excuse me they maybe labeled lazy! Why?
They have hung up their pots, hidden their woks and overturned their cauldrons! You certainly know what
I mean. They are now not eating in. They eat out, or buy take-aways, "tah pau" or "bungkus" like the
locals say. Never mind, then you could also ditto it for our party. Bring something that is most
convenient and easY; something in a packet so tasty!
To avoid an avalanche of repeated foodstuffs, before you decide your contribution give our mentor or
anyone of us who are already there a tinkle. Ask what are and what are not spread out on the table.
Then decide to bring in something missing something different to add variety to a happy day of feasting.
Don't know what to bring? Grab a packet or two biscuits or kacang so that we will have something to munch.
Even if you bring yourself alone, you are most welcome! Your presence will be his present!!
Ha, ha, ha, chuckles the new Santa, welcoming you from near or far.
So see you there on Christmas Day.
Rain or shine, never mind, come in to have a visit and dine! Come and say Merry Christmas will be just
WHAT HAPPENED THIS MONTH 50 YEARS AGO
As the year 1957 drew to an end, our mentor had two jobs on hand. First, he was reinstated as the
principal of MES. So he had his hand full trying to restore things according to his style of running
Then he had started his pet project of running a hostel for outstation boys. That was also getting into
shape. Some boys had come in to stay with him. Parents also came to inquire about the hostel, intending
to put their children as lodgers there.
Much of the work of cleaning and painting up the bungalow to make it habitable was done by himself and
the boys. As amateur painters, they did quite a lot of work. But they spilled and messed up much of the
place too. In spite of the odds and trial and error of their work, they turned the place into something
fit for staying. Many people came to peek at the hostel and found it quite agreeable. Some even praised
our mentor for taking up such an initiative to run the first kind of such lodging in town! Bravo, he felt
Though MES with the old guard at the helm started to expand, but writing was on the wall that it will
come to an end. The admission to the standard one was almost unbelievably slow and noticeably low.
Christmas came too soon. There was no organized or specially prepared sort of Yuletide celebration. But
there was some sort of ad hoc reception as well-wishers trickled in. They would then be simply
entertained with refreshments, some small treats and whatever were available at the spur of the moment to
Understandably, our mentor was preoccupied with organizing the hostel, and putting the running of the
school back to his style and culture of administration.
And, for yours truly, classmates and sundry, it was a watershed year for us. Yip Fook Khim, Hooi Yew Chee
and me had just done the Senior Cambridge Examinations, the predecessor of our modern SPM.
A bunch of us like Wong Lan Chan, Chan Siew Mun, the late Hoh Choon Yoong were under training to become
Yours truly was immediately offered a teaching post in a Chinese School. That set me off to a career in
pedagogy. For Senior Cambridge school leavers, jobs were easily available in teaching and the government
service. In the private sector no job were secure nor remunerative enough to attract school leavers. And
the most available jobs were in the clerical services with a starting pittance salary of RM137.50 p.m.
Teachers were paid a little bit more.
But those were days when a cup of tea cost 20 sen vis-a-vis the present RM1.20. The Malay woman who
peddled cakes in my village sold her wares at 5 sen by the piece. Nasi lemak was a mere 15 sen a packet!
Bentong was still the old Bentong with Loke Yew Street as the main street with many shops. Ah Peng Street
was quiet at night. Chui Yin Street was dark and ghostly. The attractions in town were the Lido, Cathay
and Sun cinemas.
So much about the nostalgia in town in 1957.
How to stay cancer free,
From Johns Hopkins Hospital
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TREAT AND ELIMINATE CANCER,
JOHN HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY.
Not sure if this can be scientifically proven, but it certainly is healthy living!
Useful Information on one of the deadliest diseases of our time: CANCER
(PLEASE READ AND FORWARD IT TO PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT)
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until
they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer
cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells
because they have not reached the detectable size.
Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from
multiplying and forming tumours.
When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies.
These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will
strengthen the immune system.
Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing
healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver,
kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumour size. However prolonged use
of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumour destruction.
When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either
compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult
to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it
needs to multiply.
Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer
cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful.
A better natural substitute would be M?nuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt
has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus.
By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened Soya milk cancer cells are being starved.
Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a
little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and
parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
A diet made of 95% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the
body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable
juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes
to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and
drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3
times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has
cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and
heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
(PLEASE FORWARD IT TO PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT)
Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining
in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic build-up.
Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more
enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the
Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals,
EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin
E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of
damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer
warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic
environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment.
- Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level.
Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
