THE MESSAGE NO. 118 SEPTEMBER 2011
THE CHAN SU FAN 2ND EDITION.
WILLIAM AND I MET FOR A POW WOW ABOUT PAW PAW
Strange indeed of this one incident! Certainly there was a double coincidence for the desire to know top up with a craving to learn. Just as I was going to post out Mesian-message 117, this happened. You know that newsletter started with an article about the goodness of payaya especially in curing cancer. William Joo seemed to know by telepathy about the story concerning that fruit in that newsletter. For he called me and told me how to grow and care for good payaya trees, while the newsletter with the article was zooming in to hit everybody's mailbox.
So William Joo Shehk Phin desperately sought me out via my cell phone. He said he wanted to tell me of his experiment of growing good paw paw trees. He wanted to meet me and treat me to a meal. I agreed. But yours truly landed him a disappointment for I cancelled the lunch appointment due to a family emergency.
Two days later, William called me again. This time I decided I must meet this so persistent buddy. "Okay," I said, "I'll be there." Where? I drove straight to his house in Jalan Carey. His is a very nice semi-D, tucked away in a cul-de-sac a jalan mati.
William's missus asked me sweetly. "What would you like for a drink?" I chose sky juice.
But ere I could lift the glass to wet my lips and soothe my throat, William swept me off my feet.
It was to his 'garden' that I was led. I quotation-marked garden because for the planted areas are strips of spare land round the three sides of William's residence. He showed me his two three-month old yet already fruiting papaya trees. There were grown in a sort of troughs dug out on the ground. The trees looked green and healthy.
Shehk Phin narrated how he planted those two healthy paw paw trees. He got a ripened papaya from a tree. hen he cut off the top and the bottom ends of the fruit. "I took out the seeds from the middle left. The seeds were dried for a day or two. Then the seeds were sowed in a seed bed."
After the seeds germinate, the seedlings are allowed to grow up to about six inches. The seedlings are now transplanted to the ground prepared for the seedlings to grow into adults. When the plants start to bear fruit, there would be an ample supply of papayas.
"And when the trees had grown too tall and inconvenient for plucking the fruit, what should we do? Pluck the fruit with a ladder?"
"No." he said. "Chop off the tree", continued he.
"What, chop off the tree? Grow a new one you mean!"
"No, chop off the tree about three or four feet from the ground. Cover the top of the stump with plastic bags so that water would not go into the trunk to make it rot. Shoots would develop from the stump and grow into branches. The branches should be trimmed so that not many branches grow big. Those branches left would bear fruit. Immediately after chopping off the main tree, apply fertiliser to make the shoots or branches grow." Shekh Phin explained so.
With all the meticulous care and attention to the plants I felt that I would get a plentiful supply of papayas. Remember the beneficial effects of consuming that fruit? Read again the first piece in
I have sent you so many articles on the cures for cancer. But sad to say, the disease is still very hardy and looks like so malignant that once it attacks, in most cases it is terminal. Why? A close relative of mine had just gone over to the other side after a year of discovering the disease in his body. And he was aged only forty-nine.)
FROM SIR WITH LOVE by DATO' TED MILES
A little upstairs room at No. 61 Ah Peng Street was my first home when I moved to Bentong in January 1953. the room had been obtained for me by Madam Loo, the "Bible Lady", as she wa called, in charge of the Chinese Methodist Church, who had made enquiries among her parishioners about possible places for the new Headmaster to live. (Madam Loo, incidentally, was the mother of two of the Methodist English School students, Ooi Keng Hong and Ng Kee Lay.) I had spent two nights in the Rest house, so when my room at No. 61 was confirmed, I moved right in, unloading all my worldly possessions that Gunnar and Wava had helped me pack into the little Ford Prefect the Methodist Mission had provided for my use. I felt good to be settled in a room of my own in Bentong, where I felt very much "on my own", but anxious to get started on this new phase of my life.
No. 61 was actually the Headquarters of the Sin Tong Kong So Association, as proclaimed a large sign across the front of the building just below my one window. (For a long time, a standing joke among the missionaries was that "Ted lived 'above sin".
The window opened on to Ah Peng Street, and while there wasn't usually much to see going on down there, I was grateful for this "window to the outside world" during the big found-up of CTs in 1954 when the town was under curfew and no one was allowed outside.
I don't recall now, but I rather imagine that my first few nights in that room were sleepless, thanks to the sound of mahjong tiles clacking downstairs and opium smoke wafting its way upstairs.
Later on, I came to realize how beneficial it was for me to have had this taste of shophouse life; the experience certainly taught me to understand my students better, learning as I did about what they went through every single day – from bathing in the open early in the morning while it was still dark to studying with constant noise – interruptions until late at night.
When I was living on Ah Peng Street, my breakfast was usually roti bakar with kaya in a coffee shop. I often had a tuckshop lunch, and that was when I learnt to appreciate Ah Chiam’s curry puffs and nasi lemak. My evening meal was nearly always at a stall near the market operated by the parents of two of our students Ow Kwai and Ow Choi. I became addicted to their ham choy tow foo tong (salted vegetables and bean curd soup), and had it night after night. Then one evening I decided to have a change from soup, so I said emphatically to Mr. Ow, "ta' mahu soup." There was much chatter and activity behind the scenes, and then I was served a big bowl of tomato soup! So much for my communication skills.

THIS IS A VERY GOOD ONE ! VERY MOVING !
From A School Principal's speech at a graduation. He said:
"Doctor wants his child to become a doctor.........
Engineer wants his child to become engineer......
Businessman wants his ward to become CEO.....
BUT a teacher also wants his child to become one of them..!!!
Nobody wants to become a teacher BY CHOICE" ....Very sad but that's the truth.....!!!
The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"
To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?"
Teacher Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...)
"Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner.
I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 min. without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.
You want to know what I make? (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table)
I make kids wonder.
I make them question.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.
I teach them how to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything.
I make them read, read, read.
I make them show all their work in math.
WHAT HAPPENED THIS MONTH 50 YEARS AGO
The following names were mentioned in our mentor's diary. Tengku Jamaluddin, Sunny, Bakri, Rahim, Hassan, Ponniah, alamshah, Vesian, Amran, Mok Say Kuang, Shahidan, Janan, Razlan, Li8ngam, Mohd Noor Ta’ayun, Bala, Hay Yin, Tengku Baharin, Samad, Keat Swee, Sar Kim Len, Mokhtar, Kok Cheng, Kenneth, Ah Fah, Kee Seng, Kee Lai Who, Cheng Chen Yen.
Those named were either up to something in their behaviour or done something that could be considered as misdemeanours. Someone pretended falling sick and got away from many tests. Then there were them who really fell ill and were warded at the hospital till they got healed.
There was also a mention of snails. From two nights' raid the hostel boys raked in more than 1,000 of those creepy crawly molluscs.
A lady was showered with what she thought was rainwater. But it was urine shot out from an upstairs window by a hostel boy!
There were electricity outages and water cuts, which were but normal occurrences those days.
There was proof that a cat had nine lives, for after it was buried it came back alive. Not true! It turned out to be a case of carcass misidentification.
A MUST READ
A lecture by Dr. H.J. Roberts
Beware of sugar free sweeteners; it might just be the cause of all your aches and pains....
In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick. She had stomach spasms and she was having a hard time getting around. Walking was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain.
By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not determine what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain and so sick she just knew she was dying.
I called her to ask how her most recent tests went, and she said they didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS.
I recalled an article a friend of mine e-mailed to me and I asked my sister if she drank diet soda? She told me that she did. Actually, she was getting ready to crack one open that moment.
I told her not to open it and to stop drinking the diet soda! I e-mailed her an article my friend, a lawyer had sent. My sister called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she had stopped drinking the diet soda AND she could walk! The muscle spasms went away. She said she sure felt a lot better.
She told me she was going to her doctor with this article and would call me when she got home. Well she called me and said her doctor was amazed!. In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the Aspartame in the diet soda.... and literally dying a slow and miserable death.
Next, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for the Aspartame poisoning! She is well on her way to a complete recovery. And she is walking! No wheelchair! This article saved her life.
If it says 'SUGAR FREE' on the label; DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
ASPARTAME' is marketed as 'Nutra Sweet,' 'Equal' and 'Spoonful.'
In the keynote address by the EPA it was announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. It was difficult to determine exactly what toxin was causing this to be rampant.
Why Aspartame is so dangerous? When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus.
Many people were being diagnosed in error. Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is! Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers.
The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic once taken off diet sodas.
In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear We've seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly.
This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia. During a lecture, I said, 'If you are using ASPARTAME (Nutra Sweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, numbness in your legs, Cramps, Vertigo, Dizziness, Headaches, Tinnitus, Joint pain, Unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision or memory loss you probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!' Is it reversible?'
Yes! STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels! Many products are fortified with it! This is a serious problem. So many people seem to be symptomatic for MS. Heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS.
Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight! These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve 'tissue specimens.'
Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the 'diet products' and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period.
Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE. Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, Seizures, Depression, Manic depression, Panic attacks, Uncontrollable anger and rage.
Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics as well. Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in their behavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet.
It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.
Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy.
